The Beginnings of a 1930s Frock for Spring

For Christmas my parents had given me two 1930s patterns, one of them being a cute dress with all the fun details that often ascribe that of the 30s. The other was a slip pattern which will come in handy now that I have a few patterns in this era.

It wasn't that long ago that while thrifting, my eyes caught a cute print with enough yardage for a dress. There is no name on the salvage, and the polyester-feeling fabric is of higher quality than that of Wal-mart's, and it's not as heavy as JoAnn's silky prints, so I'm not sure if it's vintage or not.

Some vintage buttons from my stash should help give it a vintage vibe. Since when did Sears sell buttons? Note to self: check with google as soon as this post is finished!

Now if I can find the time to sew, that would be nice... :) It's almost as much fun to plan for something as is the fruition of it.

More Signs of Spring

About a week ago I began my seeds in my little plastic planters. Nothing expensive or fancy, but oh so exciting.

Does anyone else watch for the seedlings to emerge out of the soil? A few anxious ones just popped up the other day

My shamrock is still producing blossoms. Such a cheery sight!

I spotted this befeathered courting couple the other day and they were singing songs to each other (or at least it sounded like it!)

Have a lovely weekend, friends!

Inspired by: Victoria Magazine

Did anyone else's mom get the Victoria Magazine when it was in its prime years of publishing (late 80s to mid 90s or so)? My mother's best friend would always get a subscription of it as a birthday gift for her. It wasn't until I was old enough to be trusted to not color in it, or tear out pages for paper airplanes that I remember Mom letting me look through it. The timeless and romantic elegance, the savory recipes in the back, and the inviting scenes of rooms or meadows belonging to a cottage certainly had a way of "pulling me in", even as a young girl.

Not long ago when I picked up a fabric at the store, it was certainly "apron material" but it wasn't until I after cut it out and started finding trims in my drawer that it seemed to remind me of those old magazines.

Between work shifts and a few free moments here and there, I've been working on it and just finished it. It's up in the shop tonight.

A Bit of Spring and Hope

With working lots of hours at the coffee shop I've barely stepped in the sewing room, let alone turn on the machines. It may be this way for an unknown amount of time as I race to save up for college this fall. Transferring to a college that is 4x more expensive than the last is no easy task, but I have hope in "Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Ephesians 3:20, emphasis mine).

On C.S. Lewis

"God has not been trying an experiment on my faith in order to find out its quality. He knew it already - it was I who didn't. God always knew that without Himself at the center, my temple was a house of cards. His only way of making me realize that fact was to knock it down." --C.S. Lewis
