Ah, how discouraging to find that again you've been outbid on a special apron pattern, or on that vintage tote bag pattern with several cute designs. Lately I've haven't had any really "good" winnings on ebay.
I had my eye on some Edwardian patterns that Simplicity put out that are now out of print, and one sold for $77 and the two others went for over $50! The seller probably paid 99 cents for them in the beginning. =) So I was NOT willing to spend more than that, and will just keep my eye open for more. If you all have a "Simplicity 8640" and don't want it, before you give it away to the thrift store, let me know!
On one interesting/humerous note, people who I often bid against for vintage patterns, have a couple bids on the ones I'm selling right now. =) One bidder in particular, is VERY hard to beat, and goodness, what does she use 50+ apron patterns for? I lose nearly very time I try to bid on something she does, and lightly thought about contacting her, LOL! =P Hmm, hope I'm not talking about a blog reader! =D
I have a feeling that I already sometimes bid against S&S board members, and then I feel bad if I win. ::wink::

If I get my hands on Simplicity 8640, I'm not letting it go! ;) I've had my eye on that pattern for a while -- Oh, horrors! I just did a Google search, and one IN MY SIZE sold on Etsy a while back! *moans* Why, oh why didn't I think of looking there? That has to be the best pattern Simplicity has ever produced!
I sympathize with your pattern woes -- I can imagine it must be frustrating to be repeatedly outbid by the same person!

Have you (or anyone else!) noticed that vintage patterns are selling for a really high price right now? The ones I want to bid on, often go way beyond what I can afford.
One thing for certain, they aren't violin students, or any kind of music student.
Wow, I had no idea patterns were so expensive! I learned how to drape my own patterns (well, most of them) because at the time could not really afford to get many. I'm glad for that now though! Simplicity 8640 is gorgeous! (I looked it up on google!) :) If I come across any, I'll let you know!

I try to draft my own, on a few occasions, but haven't had any good "luck" so far. (I don't believe in "luck" but couldn't think of another term)
Yes, I had noticed the high prices -- I found one website that was selling every vintage pattern for $25! And some of them were from the 70's! Of course, they may not be selling many... ;)
Hi Gal - Did you ever find the pattern 8640? I too am searching for it currently. What size do you want? I need something for a 44" bust. If you got it, perhaps there is a way to copy it?

I am also looking for Simplicity 8640. What a gorgeous recreation pattern of the dress from Titanic! I need the size that will fit 33-25-34, haven't had much luck. =(
