I decided to add lace to the dress instead of ribbon, but I found a lace that I liked better than the white that seemed to blend in more with the dress instead of really standing out, but yet give it that "finishing touch." What do you think?
And the sister who took the two pictures below doesn't normally take pictures, but they give you all an idea of what the dress looks like on a person. =)
Thanks. =) Well, I used the sleeve pattern from the dress that you saw on me last week, but made it shorter with the "concaved" edge and it turned out just about like the first set of sleeves. =P
I think for my black one I'll make the sleeves in a size larger and then add some room to the back bodice, so when my arms are in front of me, there will be some give. Does that make sense? If so, do you think it would help?
Yes, it makes sense. Would you cut the armholes a size larger as well? Extra room across the shoulders in back should help too, though I'm not sure what all that would do to the way it fits. Perhaps you would want to do a mock-up bodice before actually cutting your black dress? :)
Gorgeous! The outdoor photos look like you should be twirling and singing "The hills are alive...with the sound of music!" They are great! My question is, where did you find trim that matched the dress so perfectly? Did you dye both so they would match?
Hmm, Rachel, I am having a hard time following you! Do you mean the "extra room across the shoulders in back" would be from making the arm holes a size larger? I never thought of that...
Dana, thanks for your compliments! No, I didn't dye either. I just took a scrap of fabric with me to JoAnn's (where I purchased the fabric) to look for the right trim. =)
Oops--sorry! Guess I was rather ambiguous. :) Those were actually two separate ideas. I was wondering if you will cut the armholes a size larger to correspond with larger sleeves. Then I wondered what extra room across the back/shoulders would do to the fit--though if you don't add too much, it should be fine. I'm sorry--I'm having trouble saying it "legibly"...
Oh ok, now I get what you were saying. I am a very visual person, so hey that's fine! =) Being that I don't have to broad of shoulders (or do I? ... I don't know!) I'm not sure if I need any extra room there.
Hmm, I guess I'll have to make a mock-up (which I very much dislike doing) to see what will happen. Now if I could find some silky fabric to try it out on...
