I just recently found out about this Emmeline Apron pattern that is flattering, cute, and yet so practical! And then the Long sisters have designed a couple of charming aprons (see their store here) and offer patterns too ... which reminds me, I still need to order their latest pattern. =)
Being full of ideas from mothers and wives (and single women too!) who have given me their ideas for an apron they'd want, I have considered designing something. I'm still not sure about it. Is this "apron phase" going to die out, as like SO many young women up and started magazines for girls awhile back (::cough:: I was one of them!) or everybody did graphic designing for awhile ... etc, etc ...
So if you all don't mind my asking:
- What do you look for in an apron?
- What kind(s) would you like to see being produced?
- What details do you especially want/like?
- Would you prefer buying one ready-made, or making one from a designed pattern?
- Would you say there are already so many patterns out there, there doesn't need to be another? =)

I agree on the cuteness of the apron in the picture. I know I'm looking for an apron that is flattering, feminine, has a bib and pockets.

What do you look for in an apron?
Coverage is the most important. Cuteness/ femininity is the second. :)
What kind(s) would you like to see being produced?
I love long, full, frilly aprons. Yet ones that don't get too ratty looking right away. Something very washable that still retains cuteness.
What details do you especially want/like?
Long, at least knee length or below. Full coverage of the top at the front. Straps that do not constantly fall off. (the halter tie is a good idea)
Would you prefer buying one ready-made, or making one from a designed pattern?
If I could afford to buy one I would. It is cheaper for me if I sew one myself. I'd be more inclined to get a pattern.

No; well, at least I don't like most of the ones out there (the Big 4) The Emmeline apron is cute but not so attractive when I'm in my Regency-Victorian-Edwardian "Romantic" mood :) and want something very beauitful and full and feminine.
Also loving the Emmeline here, though I don't like straps around my neck.

-two big pockets, nice coverage; straps that don't pull on my neck
What kind(s) would you like to see being produced?
-straps that criss-cross in back or go down to the waist tie - my current favorite is one from the Daisy Kingdom pattern that overlaps in back and just slips over the head;
I don't like the bib/halter straps - they pull on my neck when I put my hands in my pockets (which is often!)

-two big pockets, waterproof lining (PUL) in a reversible apron

I LOVE that one! Its gorgeous. I just might have to order the pattern.
I saw some kits a while back at Joann's for vintage-style aprons that I just loved. I wanted to get a couple then, but I couldn't.
