After hours and hours of hand sewing, poking my fingers, and so on, I am happy to say that it is wonderful to be finally finished with this dress! Well, at least everything is done except for the hem which I will do once the other garments are done.
Because of the sheerness of this fabric, I will need another garment underneath it. =) It was either a chemise and stays, or a bodiced petticoat to go along with it. Because the less bulk the better for a light summer gown, I have chosen to do the bodiced petticoat. Looking at the instructions for it, I think I might try to implement the actual stays pattern for the top part. Stays would offer the proper silhouette needed for this particular pattern, and so we'll see how it turns out.
After I make that, my peach robe will be next.

Cheri, it turned out beautifully! I hope you post pictures wearing it complete with your bodiced petticoat for modesty. Whew! But I'll bet it was a lot of work. You are so fortunate to have such good sewing skills.
Wow--good for you! That had to have taken large amounts of patience, but what an accomplishment. Will you do your petticoat and robe by hand also?
Oh my goodness, that turned out soooo beautifully! I am glad I checked your blog today. You make me feel ashamed of myself for mentally complaining about having to put an elastic waistband on a garment today, lol! I love the fabric of this dress and I can't wait to see the other garments you are making to go along with it. I have some checked voile I was going to use for a drawstring gown for an event in February and am interested in seeing what you decide for a bodice petticoat since I have the same decision to make about my dress, too.
YayaOrchid,
Thankyou. =) I will be sure to post pictures when everything is done, and with me wearing them instead of Arabella!
Rachel,
Of me, oh my. I never thought about sewing my other garments by hand too. I have a feeling that I'll have no other choice now!
Sarah Jane,
That's so kind of you, thankyou. =) It will be fun to see your voile gown too when you're finished!
Wow, what an incredible dress. It is so beautiful, and romantic looking. I'm sure you look lovely in it. I can't wait to see the rest of your outfit.
I just found your blog and have had fun browsing around, keep up the great work!

I was wondering how you finished the neckline without using a lining? I'm going to make a similar dress and was wondering how you did it. Thank you!
